6-bit linear coded audio? Ouch! I hope this was only for cockpit voices or something equally un-demanding.

Nevermind horrible audio quality, my big takeaway from this article is "wow, no wonder things cost so much when the government is the customer!"

Good article, and comes as no surprize that anything that has to be procured with more than a simple purchase order. It is bound to cost many fold higher do to procurement burden and other unrealted costs. My final anaylsis is the success of 16/24 (2/3)working audio channels would get a failing grade in the consumer world. But a pad on the back for effort.
