Does other companies need to follow Samsung to provide similar insurance for their employees. What is so special at Samsung that causes their employees to infected by cancer? This idea by Samsung actually creating new doubts rather than happiness among employees.

@joshxdr If you read closely you will see it is the cost of treatment for up to ten years AND $94,000 IF the sufferer dies during treatment. This is all according to The Korean Herald

If $94,000 is not a typo, that sounds obsurdly cheap for 10 years of cancer treatment. I don't know the exact numbers, I would assume a single year of cancer treatment in the US would be close to $100,000.

This is pathetic for Samsung to say something like this. If they are or were working at Samsung and they have cancer, they need to be looked at thoroughly to see what caused it. It sounds fishy to me for Samsung to just out of their good will offer money for medical bills. I am just not sure what the time requirement is for???

My guess is that they reason that any cancer caused by Samsung wafer fab chemicals will show up within 3 years and as others point out they will be either dead or cured after 10.

I think that after 10 years of treatments, the patient will either be cured or dead. Probably sooner, and Korean medicine doesn't have the bloated cost structure of US medicine. This is cheap damage control.

Perhaps they are offering a settlement up front that would likely be the outcome of a court case. Then they don't have to pay the lawyers and don't "admit" guilt.

I am not sure there is any logic behind the ten- and three-year limitations. As Samsung is stressing they are not doing this because they feel any responsibility but out of humanitarian feeling. Possibly the application of these numbers to Samsung's current profile of known retirees with cancer produces an "affordable" bill. It is also worth noting that the payments are based on retirement rather than departure from the company.

i did not understand the logic behind the support for only 10 years and 3 years after retirement. I guess that there will be additional conditions such as the person should not have worked after retirement as this will be difficult to find whether the person got cancer from the new employer or Samsung.
