Just got off my ass and found some on You Tube. It is (was?) amazing (seems like it's no longer there?). Think I'd prefer it to the new one in this article.

Sorry for dissing your city jimfordbroadcom--I should have qualified my comment by saying that seeing the sculpture is the only reason I'd brave the traffic and smog of LA. I work in our Lexington, MA, office but have visited LA, San Fran, and San Diego and know how beautiful the areas are just outside the cities. Would love to hear how your sons like the sculpture!

Very cool Naomi, I love this stuff too! I'll bet you'd also like the "Animusic" videos - animusic.com - watch the sample clips, they take a while to download but are worth the wait. Also, the movie "Baraka" is kind of like "Koyaanisquats"

Wow, we've got to check this sculpture out! My boys will love it; one's into racecars, and the other one is crazy about trains. I think they'll be there for hours. That music in the video did indeed remind me of Koyaanisquatsi, 25 years ago or so in college. I thought both were cool. But as to why you hate LA so much, that's a mystery. Now, I wouldn't want to live in downtown LA, East LA, or South Central, but here in Orange County is close to heaven on earth! Do you hate the mild Mediterranean climate? The economic opportunities? Or is it the diversity of people or the strong focus on fitness and recreation? You must live in New York City or something. There is not enough money in the world to pay me to live there! Hurricanes Irene and Lee didn't help.

I liked the filming style--I think it succeeded visually in connecting the sculpture with the fruitlessness of LA traffic...and on from there.

Thanks, mbstone, for referencing something new to me: Koyaanisquatsi: Life out of balance. According to Wikipedia "The film consists primarily of slow motion and time-lapse footage of cities and many natural landscapes across the United States. The visual tone poem contains neither dialogue nor a vocalized narration: its tone is set by the juxtaposition of images and music." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koyaanisqatsi)

Couldn't stand the clip. The moviemaker was too busy trying to remake Koyannisqatsi to show us what the sculpture looked (and sounded) like.

That sculpture was located in the Logan terminal that housed airlines with the worse customer service for miles around because I remember many times just standing in endless lines staring or listening to that thing in the background. And it was a sight to behold!

It doesn't seem all that long ago when I was a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed young engineer. Now I feel like an old fool, but where are we going to find one at this time of the day (LOL)?
