So the first of the BRIC countries is getting some lime light like the last among them. Hopefully this will give a chance to supply their orders without much delay.

5 th largest country by area and population. Buying power of Brazilian's is improving. And so right decision by Foxcon and Apple.Brazil's exports are also doing well.

I expect the target will be zero difference excepting the import duty that would be levied on Chinese iPads arriving in Brazil. I also expect purchasers will not be given a choice about where there iPads come from. Of course, where there is a will there is a way.

I expect it has... by Apple. Which is why manufacturing is done in China, and now Brazil.

I don't know if Foxconn is anticipating that Brazilians probably won't tolerate the notorious conditions in their Chinese factories.

We all know that the value resides on the product's design, not on the product's assembling, which will be the nature of Foxcomm's plant in Brazil. There is almost no production of SMT electronic components the country. Even samples or small orders of components are highly taxed by Brazilian customs, which is nonsense since these import barriers doesn't protect the local semiconductor industry (which doesn't exist by the way), neither benefits local product engineering companies. This initiative is excellent for Apple who will jump ahead the competition, such as Samsung or Motorola. That is the deal : "made in Brazil for Brazilians". Profits will come to "Infinite Loop" anyway, after being highly taxed, I might add. The optimistic stand point (for software developers worldwide) is that there will be a flood of new IPad owners, avid for applications downloaded from Apple App Store. At least, the Brazilian government is not taxing internet data flow yet...

This is part of the government effort to get in the semiconductor market. Due to the tax metioned by goafrit Brazil has some electronics equipaments, like notebooks, with the highest prices in the world. For sure, Brazil's costs of production are much higher than China's. The main idea is to meet brazilian consumer maket that is not as big as US market but can make some money.

Other than the "made in" label, I wonder what differences there will be between the models from Brazil and China. Will geeks find a reason to prefer the South American edition? Would there be benefits in importing the models from Brazil to the USA rather than the models from China? I'm guessing that it costs more to manufacture in Brazil (but less than the cost of duty and shipping from China).

I look forward to made in the USA as well. How much would an iPAD cost if manufactured in the U.S.? Has the analysis ever been done?
