thanks for the overview.... now a look at the forces working against this effort would be helpful.. Let me explain, avoidance of power shortages will work against the power suppliers in the public fear portrait... the last summer's shortage of brownouts was not a good thing for some....

Few companies have already demonstrated this Smart Energy Profile 2.0 (SEP2.0). Grid2Home and Ratel Technologies ( http://rateltechnologies.com ) are among them. I believe SEP 2.0 would be be available in all home appliances in near future.

Google phylosophy is that IT will be the Brain of the Organism, that is why IT needs to gather all the data for ITS Data Mining approach. That is good but keep in mind that when an Organism ceases to exist, all the Organs within, will follow no matter how healthy they might individually be.
