Samsung is embedding an infra-red sensor to each pixel for improving touch sensitivity. It's an interesting idea although I haven't figure out the benefit. Nonetheless, there is a challenge to the implementation. Will the heat generated in the surroundings, which include the internal electronics, affect the detection?
Nonetheless, if these infra-red sensor is replaced with CCD, the application areas will be tremendous.
