analog with a hint of digital. For receivers, we have adaptive feedback - feedback gain varying via pulse signals as function of process variation.

But, as fas as PAs are concerned : except for enveope tracking, it's going to be analog unless we have PAs integrated into ASICs (or when GaAs can be cost effectively integrated with silicon).

People ate trying, but we are in a transition. There is no way you can have digital LNA or digital PA. Impossible. Although circuits controlling LNAs, PAs and mixers are digital - something like adaptive biasing or variable load pull digitally via switched capacitors.

hm, agree with you that the distant relative will eventually be acknowledge and use in more areas that already are. However, these distant relatives STILL NEED TO INTERACT WITH their Analog counterparts to do any common-good. ;-)

D IN THE ABOVE PICTURE says that it will do every thing in software at 9nm. It is never possible. soft ware will work ONLY in a hard ware. AND HARDWARE CAN DO MANY THINGS by itself.
