Was always curious why didn't Elpida develop an STT-MRAM instead of the ReRAM they claimed as intended to replace DRAM?

i don't know about anyone else but im getting tired of "this new thing" just around the corner, only one more YEAR to go and then.... forever i dont care what's available in years from now, i could be dead by then.... make something i want to actually buy, advertise it and sell it to me NOW, whatever that might be.

We have a comparable situation on our urban lake. A clutch of ducks from a mating between a domestic duck and a mallard has resulted in a dozen ducks with colors ranging from white to full-male-mallard. The walking and quacking are not different.

Unity Semiconductor had published a 64 Mb prototype oxide-based resistance memory back in 2010.

The merger appears to be more likely: "Elpida merger talks in final stage / Combined firm could have 2nd-largest share of DRAM chip market The Yomiuri Shimbun (Jan. 25, 2012)" http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/business/T120124005436.htm From a 2010 article on Bright Side it appears that this Elpida project involving Sharp is likely a thin-film device. The resistive mechanism being exploited is still not being explained. This is the brouhaha bubbling every which way: http://www.eetimes.com/electronics-news/4234678/Memristor-brouhaha-bubbles-under#

It needs some time to replace DRAM with RRAM or other emerging memory technology.

Is Elpida suggesting time for everyone to get out of DRAM and into ReRAM? http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2012/1/25/elpida-announces-resistance-ram-prototype-end-of-road-for-nand-flash.aspx

Elpida is panicking, they also announced work on charge trap flash previously with spansion. I doubt they will want to exit the DRAM game, to focus solely on ReRAM or flash. Whatever happened to their 4F^2 DRAM cell, I thought that would bring more interest and confidence in Elpida. At this point, will Micron seriously let Elpida take the driver's seat?

To say that Andy Weir's The Martian is an exploration of math, Mars, and feces is a slight simplification. I doubt that the author would have any complaints, though.
