We tried this sometime back with the Cadence emulator, initially with SCEMI 1.0 and later with 2.0. Not good I would say, both the implementation and API definition of the standard. It's quite clunky to use and lack wide vendor support while some come up with faster custom implementations of the handshake protocol. Not a very useful feature if the objective is OS bringup or blind stress testing as it causes a significant speed penalty.

Brian, Great to see that you’re seeking for more SCE-MI participation from the design and verification user community. Cadence has been and will continue to participate and contribute at the SCE-MI committee, in order to service the user community. Increased interaction from users with different applications will surely evolve the standard to new heights of usability. Raj

Brian, Thanks for recognizing that Mentor is there with you in the committee. We have much more to offer, being, as you indicate, "one of the two emulator vendors" there. I have taken your request to heart and have asked Mentor participants ton contact users to have them join the committee to help guide and shape its future. After all, I don't think any user wants to diminish or limit their interoperability capabilities. -Dennis

Synopsys HAPS FPGA-Based Prototypes support SCE-MI, have done since the launch of the HAPS-60 systems. We will sign up and help drive the standard forward.

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems.
