re: MEMS gyro sales to outpace accelerometers, says IHS

@yalanand The industry hasn't waited. It was already doing this to the tune of $9 million worth of MEMS in 2011, according to IHS-iSuppli. So nothing is stopping the industry, and the market will grow from $9 million in 2011 to $155 million in 2015, according to IHS-iSuppli. Other opinions are available.

That was my conclusion. MEMS accelerometers are more mature product with more applications outside mobile consumer and therefore a lower ASP. MEMS gyroscopes are more recent innovation with lower volume and fewer suppliers and so with higher unit prices.

Why do we need to wait until 2015, to embed MEMS devices inside TV remote control and ultrabook applications ? What is stopping the companies from using MEMS devices inside house hold applications ?

Perhaps it reflects ASP differences.

Some Androids have only accelerometers.

I do not think this makes sense. While gyro is used, XLs are more used in these systems. I cannot imagine products that have gyros without XLs.

This is curious since it's my understanding that Apple has less than 50% of "advanced" smartphones worldwide. Presumably the other guys (androids) generally have gryoscopes.... So what am I missing?
