Is it possible that Elpida will change to a Winbond business model? No more cutting edge chips, focus on legacy and specialty DRAM, embedded memory foundry, etc. This would mean selling off their Rexchip stake, firing half of their engineers, but keeping their old Japan fabs running. So, unlike Qimonda, Elpida would fade away rather than flame out. I bet Qimonda creditors wish they had been more patient, since the Qimonda implosion meant they got pennies on the dollar to help TI equip a new fab.

I vote for Lane Mason , and more points to add, MU just sold it's Japan fab last year. the only option is ship elpida machines to other country. TW is full, same for singapore... it most likely will be purchased by the lenovo team and ship to shandong or somewhere to make ddr2 chips for white box vendors.

Drones are, in essence, flying autonomous vehicles. Pros and cons surrounding drones today might well foreshadow the debate over the development of self-driving cars. In the context of a strongly regulated aviation industry, "self-flying" drones pose a fresh challenge. How safe is it to fly drones in different environments? Should drones be required for visual line of sight – as are piloted airplanes? Join EE Times' Junko Yoshida as she moderates a panel of drone experts.
