As the density increase, what's the impact to the reliability of storage. Does the leakage in SSD and maintaining charge in a magnetic disk become a stumbling block? For some kind of data, the demand of storage may be offset by cloud computing. The future of online storage may be bright. I believe Dropbox would be more interested in GB per Wattage than density of a harddrive.

I have found that I have to double my capacity on my home network server every 3 years. The trigger for me tends to be less than $100 price tag. Fry's has several 2TB for less than that.

With more people storing more audio and video, methods to store more efficiently and economically are becoming more critical than ever. I'm not sure that this will actually be able to meet the demand but should certainly help.

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems.
