It is particularly tough for the engineers in California. I wish there be a substantial cut to the pay & bonus for the CEO and VPs as a condolence to those laid-off engineers! After all, should the senior management be held accountable for the business failures?

I think there are other reasons as well for layoffs rather than just business conditions. 

IMHO ISIL is setting itself up for sale in 6-9 months. Don joined the board recently after selling NatSemi and the CEO has changed recently as well.

Laying off engineers cannot be a growth strategy. They are prepping for buyout and trying to improve bottomline numbers/ratios to get better valuation. (just my theory).
