The Blast Gauge actually uses two MEMS sensors--one to sense the pressure of an explosion, and the other to sense motion in order to get a long battery lifetime. It might seem wasteful that the Blast Gauge is disposable once its battery has expired, but just as the tiny MEMS chips enable the devices to be ultra-small, they also make them ultra-cheap.
What are the engineering and design challenges in creating successful IoT devices? These devices are usually small, resource-constrained electronics designed to sense, collect, send, and/or interpret data. Some of the devices need to be smart enough to act upon data in real time, 24/7. Specifically the guests will discuss sensors, security, and lessons from IoT deployments.
