I had not considered theft or pranks. I just want to find what I am looking for and I think everyone I work with has the same desire. Following up on what Max suggested, if the item is unknowingly in my possesion, and I tell my boss I cannot find it, and it is later found in my cube, I would like all the help I can get to avoid that scenario.

I doubt that silver ESD protecting bags will help, but sheet of aluminium or copper probably will be enought to shield tag. All depends on RFID tag type and frequency. We are talking about equipment for engineers, sooner or later if they want they will discover the way to take equipment out of the lab without triggering system. But they are engineers not thiefs or students who want to make a joke.

I wish our company would start using this. I'm so tired of constantly hearing that someone can't find something they really need. And sometimes it's never found (it grew legs and went out the front door). On that note... how easy would it be to shield a piece of equipment to keep it from being detected by RFID? Would one of those silvery, static protection bags do it?

Max, Wow, I am impressed! You have suggested a very workable solution. Using one of these readers at key exits in our office and lab area should save us a lot of time (and *%@^#!). I can hardly wait to get my hands on the goods and get started on this project. Thanks for your help. Larry

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems.
