When Shekhar Borkar talks, the world listens. It is evident that issues related to ultra low submicron CMOS technologies will keep the power burning. But I am confident we can get this sorted out in the next few years.

isn't this pretty much the epitome of obviousness? power is the main issue when building even current tera- and petascale facilities. the story on leakage is not exactly fresh either...

Local computing is the original Wintel party line, he's reflecting Intel's wish to go back to glory days. Better cloud argument can be made from a made up Big Brother horror story, like Amazon or Apple or Google or Microsoft monitoring your internet preferences.

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems. Signal integrity sage Ransom Stephens will explain how PAM4 differs from NRZ and what to expect in design, measurement, and signal analysis.
