Thanks for posting this. I was living in Japan when Sally Ride flew into space. Everyone in Japan knew her name. A few years later, Japan, too, got its own first female astronaut, Chiaki Mukai. RIP.

We note for the record that cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman in space aboard Vostok 6 in 1963.

Gone too soon. Wonderful video at the link. I especially appreciated her comments about the fragility of the thin royal blue line of Earth's atmosphere.

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems.
