Global Foundries acquired chartered Fabs in Singapore, New Malta FAB in NY. Along with AMD Fabs, It is part of Alliance with IBM for technology development. Only reason they Opened Malta FAB is to get a share of high end foundry (32, 28 & beyond), Targeting US market. IT is right next to IBM JDA allaince and Sematech and nanotechnology Alliance in Albany NY. Global FOundry is Privately held company, i.e sitting on Cash. It can fillin void of 2nd source for lot of US fab-less companies.

The claim has to be backed by data and data only. Their top line is heavily influenced by one company - AMD. You need to see non-AMD portion of the revenue to see whether their real foundry market share is truly growing compared to TSMC, Samsung, UMC, and SMIC.

We can't condone off track betting on the EE Times Forum. :) But what are you saying? Globalfoundries won't increase its share of the foundry market?

What do you want to bet? Many industry pundits are saying otherwise.

Global foundries has hired a lot experienced folks from around the US and abroad. Just wait a couple of years, you will see they will increase the share of US foundry market.
