Yes, the traces do not have to be on the surface, but are often beneath a plastic panel on which legends and symbols can be printed defining functions.

This sounds like a rehash of a press release. This is nothing new. Other companies have been offering this technology for years. How does the Freescale solution differ itself from the competition?

It sounds like a nice way for designers to have the user interface be "touch" with simple (I hope) copper based PCB etch. Does the copper etch need to be on the surface or can it be below the printed outer layer? I could see flex circuit boards being used under a printed press on outer layer being easy to build and use.

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems.
