If smart carpets are on the way, smart hard surface floors can't be far behind. But seriously, I hadn't thought about carpet, but it won't be too much longer when pretty much everything around us is a sensor of some sort. The electronic carpet! When this becomes commercially viable there lot of other applications possible. Coming to my mind is spread this below our bed sheets and foam then it can detect our sleeping postures and advise us and correct it. And also in hospitals patients to be maintained ina particular posture can be helped.

As a student in Germany, I was living on the local campus: an old English military barracks (Kaserne) from the cold war, converted to a campus. The original carpet there could suck gallons of beer without showing any damage or even the slightest color change. It was totally incredible and unexplained.
