What else can we expect on the iPhone5? NFC is not what I want but battery life is. BTW, I like the headphone design. Is the iPhone5 using the new chip scale SIM or the same as iPhone4?

Re NFC: I am told there are still a fragmented set of ways to do NFC payments so there is market building to be done, and that's not something Apple does. Also, what does NFC give consumers they don't have with the swipe of a credit they are carrying anyway?

I heard an interesting take on NFC in the iPhone as I was milling about the three-ring circus outside the Apple event. Google has taken the NFC initiative, so now it's actually in Apple's best interest not to adopt it in iPhone. Apple's best bet, according to this theory, is to use competing technology for cashless payment, etc.

Setting the size of the display for the applications community is a BIG deal. Here Samsung et. al. vs. Apple will create issues. The camera on the iPod Touch could also shake up the DSC point-and-shoot market...maybe. But LTE and Lightning, that's just playing catch up.

Drones are, in essence, flying autonomous vehicles. Pros & cons surrounding drones today might well foreshadow the debate over the development of self-driving cars. In the context of a strongly regulated aviation industry, "self-flying" drones pose a fresh challenge. How safe is it to fly drones in different environments? Should drones be required for visual line of sight, as are piloted airplanes? Is the technology advancing faster than we can answer the questions it poses? Panelists: Chad Sweet, Director of Engineering, Qualcomm; Yannick Levy, VP Corporate Business Development, Parrot; Jim Williams, ex-FAA drone chief; Michael Drobac, Exec. Director, Small UAV Coalition; Moderator: Junko Yoshida, Chief Int'l Correspondent, EE Times
