There are lots of great things about SmartFusion2 -- I'm particularly interested in anything to do with security and reliability (in the case of reliability I'm very interested in anything to do with regard to creating radiation tolerant designs).
But did you sport the one glaring omission between the original SmartFusion Mixed-Signal FPGAs/SoCs and the new SmartFusion2 offerings?
That's right -- in addition to the hard core ARM Cortex-M3 microcontroller, the original devices sported both programmable analog and programmable digital fabric. By comparison, the SmartFusion2 devices contain the M3 core and programmable digital, but no programmable analog.
So now the only programmable device vendors left standing with analog capability are Cypress with their PSoC devices (hard processor core, interesting programmable analog, but limited CPLD-level programmable digital), Lattice with their power and platform-management devices, and Xilinx with the Agile Mixed-Signal (AMS) capabilities in their 7 Series 28nm FPGAs.
What are the engineering and design challenges in creating successful IoT devices? These devices are usually small, resource-constrained electronics designed to sense, collect, send, and/or interpret data. Some of the devices need to be smart enough to act upon data in real time, 24/7. Specifically the guests will discuss sensors, security, and lessons from IoT deployments.
