What is the cheapest way to get started with OpenCL for FPGAs? I checked out Altera's website and saw that OpenCL-enabled boards are manufactured by third party manufacturers and their prices were about 4k+ USD! Is there some alternative to get started for a hobbyist-kind of user? Are there other FPGA compnies (Xilinx, Lattice...) that allow for a poor man to get acquainted with OpenCL for FPGAs?
Anyone had a chance to try this? OpenCL looks like a good choice for FPGA design, as it is intended to be all you need to program your parallel processing applications, be it on a multicore CPU, GPU and now FPGA. However, I have been disappointed too many times with 'hey, it's just like writing in C/C++' tools for FPGAs. But hey, maybe it's finally the one?
