In 3D, each heats an entire plane and this is not dissipated out quickly, so the adjacent planes also thermally disturbed.

Interesting development...but who needs 100 million read/write cycles? flash drive disk? Kris

Who needs it? Flash disks would certainly be one as it would reduce the need for leveling algorithms. Could also change system architecture by using flash more for cache/paging as you don't need to worry (as much) about read/write failures. In terms of write speeds, you could have higher parallelism for writing more bits at a time again because you may now use more like a traditional disk, near volatile memory.

Drones are, in essence, flying autonomous vehicles. Pros and cons surrounding drones today might well foreshadow the debate over the development of self-driving cars. In the context of a strongly regulated aviation industry, "self-flying" drones pose a fresh challenge. How safe is it to fly drones in different environments? Should drones be required for visual line of sight – as are piloted airplanes? Join EE Times' Junko Yoshida as she moderates a panel of drone experts.
