Like all the other technologies before it, solar power is subject to the same laws of the marketplace: sooner or later it will become a commodity product. Once that occurs, the profit margins will shrink to very low levels and only the most cost effective producers will be able to compete at the global level. That said, if new solar technologies become available with significant improvements in efficiency or cost they will prove disruptive to the pricing for a period of time but will (just like a pond disturbed) will settle out.
