While it is not that hard to create a class "D" audio amplifier that functions at some level, creating one that has very low distortion and low noise, is quite a different task. While in theory a class "D" amplifier can be capable of very low distortion, what we often see is something that "sounds good" to those who are not bothered by 10% distortion as a routine condition. And of course power supply rejection is also an area where cheaper acts against better.
