This article describes only the tip of the iceberg. The whole story is that Qualcomm has implemented in the digital domain envelope tracking technique along with digital predistortion. It is important note especially if we talk about LTE standard with carrier aggregation. So, RF DSP rules.

Doesn't matter, dude, esp. for protocols where the pdf peaks well below the maximum transmitted power. Can GaAs PAs compete with drain modulated CMOS at Pmax-20dB?

What is the efficiency of CMOS PA? GaAs and GaN PAs are known for higher power efficiency.
