A company founded in France with a joint partnership with a Russian company. Sounds like a good investment in the future security of the US.

So a company from a country with a socialist president that has open ties to company that is state-funded by a country with an ex-KGB president (where "ex" is used generously) is now doing our advanced intelligence work? Tax-payer funded, no less? So...exactly who won the Cold War? Technology breakthroughs aside, this is just too creepy for me.

I often watch in interest when I see discussions about storage technology because some of the same challenges have history in communications technology. QPSK, 8PSK, 16-QAM, etc. Obviously there are differences but the principles of values, bits, levels and error correction are still there. Next they will discover pre-distortion...

The technology sounds intriguing but the downer is that CEO of Crocus is Bertrand Cambou - someone who single-handedly demolished semiconductor R&D at Motorola and then did n't do so well at AMD or Spansion either. IARPA had better watch out.

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems.
