Perhaps even cyanical I can't make Design West this year. Maybe next.

That's very cynical of you :-) Are you planning on attending Design West?

Someone suggested that he may also use small pebbles (down to the size of grit) to help "lock" things in place

Many people do this kind or art. Very amazing. There is an artist in the SF bay area that does this type of rock balancing, no ice, no water, no glue.

seems to me there is some link (since they look so similar) between the words cynic and cyanoacrylate

Top heavy rocks like that would be in a state of unstable equilibrium - they might balance for a second or two but if you even breathed near them they'd topple. There is a clue on his website. The temperature was minus 5 C. The rocks look wet. I suspect there is a thin layer of ice between the rocks which overcomes the tendency to topple as long as they are finely balanced and held there while the ice forms. He does say if it's windy, they come down.

They can't be standing without a super glue+some hidden support. The law of gravity still apply and we are stuck on this planet with no hope to escape ...

There must be no wind there?

I bet he doesn't -- you go and ask him and tell me what he says :-)

NEXT UPCOMING BROADCAST
In conjunction with unveiling of EE Times’ Silicon 60 list, journalist & Silicon 60 researcher Peter Clarke hosts a conversation on startups in the electronics industry. One of Silicon Valley's great contributions to the world has been the demonstration of how the application of entrepreneurship and venture capital to electronics and semiconductor hardware can create wealth with developments in semiconductors, displays, design automation, MEMS and across the breadth of hardware developments. But in recent years concerns have been raised that traditional venture capital has turned its back on hardware-related startups in favor of software and Internet applications and services. Panelists from incubators join Peter Clarke in debate.
