Or maybe the other way round: what and how many features of interest can you fit into a flash chip ?

I'm pretty sure you can't practically fit so many MB flash on a chip embedded with other designs even at 40 nm. But I am curious if there is a growing need to.

Take out Freescale from that list. They are pretty busy paying their mountain of debt. The quarterly interest on the debt makes them constantly on negative earnings for the last almost 2 years. They can hardly make a move.

memory is going to play a critical role in future MCU /SOC development. Microchip had acquired SST to gain access to the Flash technology. Microchip had to fork out ~100M$ (though actual deal was 275M$). here it is the other way round, a memory company acquiring a MCU and Analog business. does make sense.

What are the engineering and design challenges in creating successful IoT devices? These devices are usually small, resource-constrained electronics designed to sense, collect, send, and/or interpret data. Some of the devices need to be smart enough to act upon data in real time, 24/7. Are the design challenges the same as with embedded systems, but with a little developer- and IT-skills added in? What do engineers need to know? Rick Merritt talks with two experts about the tools and best options for designing IoT devices in 2016. Specifically the guests will discuss sensors, security, and lessons from IoT deployments.
