Intel may very well have given up on mobile. Its planned release for Bay Trail (22 nm Atom for tablets) is effectively 2014. http://news.softpedia.com/news/Intel-Prepares-Mighty-Bay-Trail-T-Atom-for-2014-22nm-CPU-308020.shtml And yet they're taking all these 22 nm orders (even a 14 nm order) from fabless companies. It really does look like Intel is getting out of hardware, and more into services, such as foundry and software-based. But Intel's culture has never been to serve others. So, yes, they could crash and burn very soon.

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems. Signal integrity sage Ransom Stephens will explain how PAM4 differs from NRZ and what to expect in design, measurement, and signal analysis.
