"Intel inside" is no longer a formula for success. Only Intel itself does not not seem to know this yet. I sure hope that the internal candidate they picked is a strong manager who will re-orient the Intel behemoth quickly into a growth path rather than keep flogging tri-gates and other mfg. innovations that have not exactly been crowd - pleasers ( at least not for Mobile ). Providing Foundry service to the Fabless Wonders along the CA coastline would not be such a shame either - TSMC pulled off a 35 % gross last year and the shortage at 28 nm will only keep growing as low - cost Chinese SmartPhones boom.

On the contrary, I see their acquisitions of McAfee and Wind River as strategic, also their foot in the door of Vodafone (Verizon). They are a position, potentially, to DEFINE the mobile platform.

Krzanich would be obvious choice considering he was COO. Actually wouldn't equate him with 'manufacturing' but with operations, which would include other internal functions.

On the other hand, sidelining the chief Product officer (Dadi) is a pretty clear communication or admission that Intel's primary focus on (its own) product is gone.

It doesn't seem all that long ago when I was a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed young engineer. Now I feel like an old fool, but where are we going to find one at this time of the day (LOL)?
