Just noticed the president/CEO separation, wonder what that entails.

Intel had a great opportunity to reinvent itself by bringing in an outsider who could have shaken things up and perhaps got the company growing again (just like IBM did with Lou Gerstner). Instead by playing it safe and promoting an insider, Intel will continue to stagnate and never really regain its lost glory. As one indicator of their lack of growth, Intel stock has stayed flat for the past decade or more. Pretty pathetic performance.

I think the most interesting is naming Renee James as president. This reflects the recognition of the importance of the broader ecosystem that Intel is part of.

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems. Signal integrity sage Ransom Stephens will explain how PAM4 differs from NRZ and what to expect in design, measurement, and signal analysis.
