With Renee's background in s/w more than chips and Brian's background in manufacturing I wonder if the hidden strategy is to move up the food-chain towards complete software based solutions with the fab operations being opened up to others.
That might be a recognition of the dog-eat-dog world of semiconductors where it is getting harder to sustain a high margin business.
Since its takeover by an UK owned media group, EE Times has become a peddler of puff pieces like the one above by various Brits. I sure hope that the US semiconductor industry itself will not suffer the same fate ( surreptitious takever & degradation ) as EE Times. One of the veteran tech journalists that EE Times got rid of after the UK takeover is Mark Lapedus who I always liked for his thorough technical analyses rather than serving as just a Megaphone for ARM.
