To add to the previous poster's comments, the difference between a 7020 and 7045 device is $1500+ when looking at public web pricing. The 7045 has 4x the logic capacity plus the transceivers. Realistically, you should be comparing the MMP Kit ($2095) to the ZC706 Kit ($2495) http://www.xilinx.com/products/boards-and-kits/EK-Z7-ZC706-G.htm.

I think this board is targeted towards users who need a development platform with a much higher density Programmable Logic section. The ZedBoard and the Parallela module are both great platforms to experiment with Zynq but with that new MMP you get 350K logic cells versus the 85K on the Z7020 devices. Plus, for applications that need high speed transceivers, the MMP is a great platform to prototype with and it also offers a SOM format to move straight to production with. It is exciting to start seeing all these new Zynq platforms come out and I am sure there will be more released shortly. For engineers who need to start a more complex HW project today, this is a module with great development value.

What a ridiculous price. Compare that to parallelas "mini module" for US$99 with similar features - just the lower model zynq soc and different mix of io. http://www.parallella.org/2013/04/16/hello-world-my-name-is-parallella/

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems.
