Andrzej11 is right--this is a highly defined lab experiment filtered through the marketing department. With high-gain antenna arrays on towers 2 km apart in the desert and enough transmitting power you could overcome the path loss. But this won't be appearing in cell phones any time soon.
Samsung is showing they have vision and enough confidence to put it out publicly.
The real winners are the cell phone companies. At these speeds, they have far less connect time for the standard e-mail, web pages and little comments like this.
