Smart phones, tablets, iPods, iPads, iEverythings... are NOT fixable in the traditional sense but can always be returned to the factory for refurbishing. The business model assumes just that -there are are no customer-replaceable spare parts. This is to be expected with the pricing competition we see in tablets (iEverything excepted!). This is sad, the fun part of tinkering with these gadgets has been largely taken out!
iFixit's name sometimes leads people to miss an important point namely recycling. This is another device with a lithium battery. Keeping that battery out of the landfill should be a consideration also. The easier it is to remove the battery the less likely it is to wind up in the landfill.
I wonder how much iPod users actually care about repairability. Companies that are in the repair business will figure out what they need to do, but the average end user is unlikely to ever want to try to repair it himself.
