I completely agree with you!! Despite the fact that "Generation 10" seems a marketing move to look far beyond Xilinx 8-Series while indicating that altera is diving into 10nm integration orders, the whole Altera's future portfolio start to be crystal clear now.
Now, regarding the "Ultra-high-performance processor system", I've heard that Intel is not willing to build ARM cores into its own fabs, so... may the 14nm Stratix SoCs include Intel's x86 Haswell cores??? That would be a completely disrupting technology!!
One interesting point is that Altera have struck an exclusive deal with Intel with regard to the 14nm node for FPGAs.
This doesn't prevent FPGA companies who already have a relationship with Intel from using this node (Achronix and Tabular) -- but it does block any other FPGA companies from joining the party.
Scanning back over my notes -- I just remembered that the folks at Altera wouldn't say what processor sub-system they are going to deploy in their Stratix 10 SoCs -- they just refer to it as a "Ultra-high-performance processor system" ... so, will it be a quad core ARM Cortex-A9, or will it be something else...?
