Imgtec should bundle a free/almostfree MIPS license with every license of PowerVR graphics core. the same way ARM bundles Mali graphics with its CPU.

Implications of a strong player?

What are the implications for design engineers of having another strong player in the field? Lower prices? More choices? Second source? Seems like there is not much downside.

Will Microchip use this new core (currently PIC32 is based on MIPS)? Some data about performance would be interesting.

@eewiz

Maybe Imagination should do that, maybe not. But ARM does not systematically "bundle" Mali GPUs with Cortex CPUs.

That said, ARM does "negotiate" its terms with licensees, a process that can take up to six months.
