Not true. The electric world record is still hold by the Venturi Jamais Contente VBB-2.5 at 495km/h (307mph) on bonneville salt lake

I apologize that I wasn't clear on my text here. There should have been a qualifer here. Drayson's record is the world land speed record for a lightweight electric car. In other words, in order to qualify for an attempt on the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile's (FIA) woldelectric land speed record, Drayson had to make its vehicle weigh less than 1,000kg without the driver.

When I was going through a number photos Drayson uploaded on its image server, I came across this picture with Google's chairman Eric Schmidt and Lord Drayson chatting.

Drayson's world's record is great, but that single picture -- Schmidt and Drayson -- spoke more to me than anything else.

Apparently, Schimidt attended the practice runs for the Drayson's racing car. Google's interest in EV appears more than just the rich high-tech company's pastime.

You're right. Perhaps Google will buy out Tesla at some point? Musk has expressed interest in Google's self-drive technology recently. Perhaps there is a partnership in the offing.
