I know, I know, but when I visit the UK my mom won't let me out of her sight ... when I do get to visit your company I'll make sure to bring my trusty soldering iron :-)

@Kfield, Thank you there was a large team of people much smarter than I working on it. It does feel pretty amazing to be honest, especially watching the launch last week. 

This is the third generation processor, I am currently leading the development of the fourth and that is a step change again in performance and approach. It is a little annoying I cannot openly talk about how we do it but that is our competative edge ;)

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems.
