@Crusty: I once had a great lady manager who said she hated me because I could visualise the materials and fabrication required to get her idea engineered into the real world.

That seems strange ... but managers are often strange...

@Crusty: "No she did not become Mrs Crusty."   I'm glad you put that in.  It's amazing how many stories like that DO end like that!

I thought about putting that in but didn't, as Max specified "EETimes related": captions.  Then again, a lot of engineers spend a lot of time in exactly that position, so I guess it IS topical.... :-)

@Max :  I take it you are recalling a management story from the past...

Your about right many managers can only think of the task to be undertaken and not what the fall back position needs to be, or the task that needs to follow the one they have embarked on.

I once had a great lady manager who said she hated me because I could visualise the materials and fabrication required to get her idea engineered into the real world.

I think that was only reason she hated me? Though she did mention that I am arrogant, self opionated, have a foul temper, until the first cup of tea has been taken  on arriving at work, after which I am sweetness and light and that I am always right.

No she did not become Mrs Crusty.

I think that if I were standing there, I would be saying "Please hand me my brown corduroy trousers!" :-)

@yrbndr: Kinda reminds me of what it felt like passing a kidney stone...

Is this a suggestion for a caption, or are you just reminiscing?

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems. Signal integrity sage Ransom Stephens will explain how PAM4 differs from NRZ and what to expect in design, measurement, and signal analysis.
