Seems like this is a strategic investment for Seagate, perhaps leading to acquisition at a later stage. Perhaps something will be discussed more about this at Flash Memory Summit tomorrow?

Both Samsung and Micron have already announced 3 - bits per cell technology, so while I dont know too many details about the Seagate effort, this cannot be considered cutting edge technmology (well, maybe just a little).

3 level storage for Seagate sounds really ambitious...not much VDD room to accomplish this...would anyone knw any details of this technology? Kris

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems.
