I have a scar on my left arm from solder. It's from a wave-solder machine. Do you have any scars from soldering, Max?

What can you learn about soldering in 45 minutes? Earlier this year, IEEE offered a two-night soldering course. I'll write about it in "Soldering for Engineers" tomorrow here at EE Times. I'll post a link when it goes live.

In the meantime, read my Product Review: Weller LED soldering iron for those of you who do know how to solder.

@Kfield...."assuming that we get through the legal issues?"

Let me guess - they'd only be open to US residents....  :-)

@kfield: Should we hold a soldering class at DESIGN West, assuming that we get through the legal issues?

If you are talking about a series of 45-minute hands-on speed-training classes, I personally think they would go "gang busters"!!!

The question: Should we hold a soldering class at DESIGN West, assuming that we get through the legal issues?

What are the engineering and design challenges in creating successful IoT devices? These devices are usually small, resource-constrained electronics designed to sense, collect, send, and/or interpret data. Some of the devices need to be smart enough to act upon data in real time, 24/7. Are the design challenges the same as with embedded systems, but with a little developer- and IT-skills added in? What do engineers need to know? Rick Merritt talks with two experts about the tools and best options for designing IoT devices in 2016. Specifically the guests will discuss sensors, security, and lessons from IoT deployments.
