Applied did not say explicitly

But it is notable that Splinter is 62

The life of a CEO, living in a airplane seat, is tough and people in their 60s sometimes say it is time to change the work/life balance.

Sound like the board of director's made a wise decision.  Good luck to you Mike Splinter.  We will be watching Applied Materials over the next few months.
