yeah that is one thing that is so wild about his designs. He has one the size of several elephants that he pulls around on his own.

I've got a model version on my desk -- a slight breeze will drive the propeller that plwers the legs -- it looks really creepy when it's walking -- they really are amazing creatures...

I love these things. I've always wanted to build 2 rideable ones. One version that has many many small legs and I sit on it like a chair. The other would be a replica of his giant one that you get a glimpse of in that video.

Years ago I discovered Theo Jansen and saw several videos which included footage of them "dying" as they fell apart or got stuck on things.

He believes in evolving his designs, so he takes tem out and lets them fail. He'll release several at a time with different aspects and only continue to use the aspects of the ones that live longest. It is pretty interesting.

Ha, you're probably correct about there being some blooper footage somewhere.  We all like to put our best foot forward I suppose :)

I had never heard of these mechanical robots before. I found them fascinating (and I love the Mahler soundtrack).

But I wonder, what real use could these things have? I can imagine there must be lots of blooper footage of them going awry, walking into the ocean or whatever.

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems.
