Looking forward to listening to the ICS stuff in the next session...

Author

thanks Caleb and Brian.

Author

Many of our company's applications have gone to the cloud. Email, project management, CRM all in the cloud. Easy to work from anywhere. No work when the cloud is broken.

Author

hello all from Edmonton, Alberta. Better late than never.

Author

Multicore establishes a whole new set of problems, but also solves some. The biggest problem is that the tools we are using to write and debug multi-core are still basically the ones developed for single core.

Author

Brian, Thanks for sharing your insights & experience.  The thought-provoking lecture is well worth enduring the few product placement ads for Intel IP.

Author

multicore systems are not popular among developers... single core developing is more than 50% debugging and multicore code is even more complex.. why is it so???

Author

thanks, vishalzie

Author

since updating flash to beta release 11.8.120.129 i have had no further problems. check your release version in the 'about adobe flash player' and if its the previous version, i guess the problem is that. hopefully adobe will make this beta release a permanent release soon because we all are experiecing crashes

Author

I prefer voice as well. Leads to better conversations.

Author

OK, thanks for considering it.

Author

This week I am trying to do three weeks work as I get ready to go on vacation. All of the publications I write for want stuff to post while I am gone!

Author

and i personally feel that live chat(voice) session is the best way

Author

Sorry, I dont have that much spare time between now and then.

Author

No, it was failing completely for me with Firefox's Flash plugin, but was working sporadically for me with IE's Flash plugin.

Author

i think people attending the session on IE are facing difficulties while its perfect with browsers like mozilla firefox

Author

Another problem is there's no way the real Brian could answer 50 questions at once.   So, you'd need an army of answerers,  in the general case.  But, could you try pre-recording it for us tomorrow?

Author

I have done courses like that in the past where it switched over to a live chat (voice) session after a prerecorded talk.

Author

The only problem is that I would then spend a lot more time trying to make the lecture part perfect...

Author

agree with youkrh82

Author

So, by using a virutual, pre-recorded Brian, the real Brian could answer the questions in real time.  It's like being in two places at one time!

Author

Sorry - I don't know whay you cant get to the previous course vishalzie. I am not entrusted with that kind of information...

Author

Agreed. Difficult to keep track of live questions as you are speaking.

Author

i joined eetu few days back and couldnt attend the previous sessions u had in november... will i graduate from this course???

Author

Well, I think it would work better for me, to be able to play back your entire talk.  Maybe you don't need to see what we're blogging as you speak.... Only you know how much that impacts the direction of your talk.  I'd expect it normally has little impact on what you intended to say...

Author

Not sure what you mean vishalzie.

Author

I have often wondered why they want me to do it live? Would be more sensible to have it pre-recorded.

Author

i cant see my overall progress.... ????

Author

Brian, best would be: you record it at 11:15; let people play it back at nooon, then answer their questions at 12:40 or so...  But, I see, you might not be able to respond to their questions in real time as you speak.... Problem.

Author

haha, that is one way to do it!

Author

OK.  I can ask as I listen.  For example, I'm now on the replay at slide 5...

Author

Then I would miss you on the chat, or perhaps you can ask questions as you are listening. That could work.

Author

In light of the failure of live streaming, I'm going to attend tomorrow's meeting at 12:45, just after live streaming has finished, and the entire session is available for playback.  To anyone who experienced hiccups in playback, I'd advocate doing the same.

Keith

Author

Thanks, good presentation.

Author

Fantastic.  Thanks again!

Author

Good afternoon, everyone

Author

Hyperthreading can let you get better utilization of a single core. Not as important as mjulti-core or hypervisor technology.

Author

I didn't really touch on hyperthreading at all. This is where a single processor executes more than one thread at the same time - interleaving them.

Author

Maybe the problem is due to VIRTUALIZATION!

Author

We did have quite a few people listening in. Maybe they need a better cloud server structure :)

Author

Hi Brian - no questions from today's session - but might have questions for tomorrow's session.

Author

i couldnt really get the idea of hyperthreading... we went on too fast

Author

Perhaps it was too overloaded before.

Author

Now, after the live presentation, the player plays it perfectly, with no hiccups.  Wonder why?

Author

THANKS BRIAN.. GREAT SESSION..

Author

Perhaps if you guys dont have too many question, I should just talk longer... What do you think?

Author

anyone have any more questions?

Author

I do welcome your questions via email – brian_bailey@acm.org  However,  I want to apologize that after the class on Friday, I will be off on vacation for two weeks, so if any of you attempt to contact me I will not be responding for a while.

Author

Thanks.  Good review.  I'll check out your past presentation for some more detail.  See you tomorrow.

Author

I would encourage you to go back to the pervious course to get more infor on virtualization.

Author

Thank you Brain good infor.

Author

Hope it was useful and sorry I had to ruch so much. 1/2 is just such a short period of time to talk about so many things.

Author

Your welcome aykc88

Author

Brian and celeb

Thank you.

Author

@colhekman with IE, it plays, but then drops out quickly.  Thanks for the help.

I use cloud services for personal services and to share docs, pics & videos with my coworkers.

Author

Some software I use at work has cloud services available.  But, haven't found the need to use at this point.

If everything needs to be globally accessible, then I would agree with you, but many of the sensors, while they have to be identifyable, they do not have to be unique.

Author

Good morning!  Brian, just wondering - doesn't the slow adoption of ipV6 represent a huge obstacle to this scenario?

Author

Hello from Rockwell Automation in sunny Mayfield Hts. Ohio. Home of the Advanced Technology Lab of RA.
