It could possibly be subdivided but unfortunately the cost to bring it up to modern day code might make that financially difficult. It is just easier to build new modern buildings for more manageable sizes.

A long time ago I talked to a guy that did radio controlled planes. They wanted to have races and stuff in one of these but there were insurance reasons that they couldn't because the buildings didn't meet current code. Its a shame, that would have been cool.

As totally awesome as that sounds, I think NASA should focus on space. Maybe they should sell it to some crazy billionaire to finally get some funding!

Oh man, that is so cool. I wish I could have seen it while it was in the hangar.

I think that this would have served its purpose duing the satelite or flight tests. Keeping the temperature and atmosphere control for such a struture is really tough.

@y_sasaki  Interesting. Thanks. Maybe when we all get our jetpacks, these dirigble hangars could become indoor jetpack lounges or just an indoor space to try out the jetpack. Maybe not. Or a place for testing drones.

We have similar former Airship hangers in Tustin, Orange County CA. I've heard it is difficult to find new purpose because those structures do not meet todays safety standards, such as fire or earthquake.

if you hang the polycarbonate on the inside of the structure and the skeleton would not be exposed to the tropical environment anyway. May not be as pretty but solves that issue!

It is preferred to have modular structure to conduct different tests. Why is this structure so big? Can it be divided and make more flexible and efficient?

"Gigantic" is the only word that describes those huge facilities created by NASA , be it the hanger for airplanes, the wind tunnel or the supercomputer.

I just could not get the difference between the NASA developed forward osmosis process Vs the conventionally available Reverse Osmosis process.
