I think the process itself is very reliable, since it is based on chemical reactions, which are usually reproducable.

The researchers discussed this distinction, saying the the lithium carbonate shapes the graphene sheete, isolating them from each other and thereby preventing the formation of graphite. Then after the lithium carbonate is washed out with acid, only the 3-D graphene remains.

Graphene is really a two-dimensional layer of graphite...therefore 3D dimensional nature of 1-atom thick layer sounds puzzling...where is the throd dimension coming from? is it still graphene?
