For Intel this could be good news.

The incumbent SoC apps processor provider into the Lumia range is Qualcomm with its Snapdragon line. Intel may get a chance to win over some slots from a Microsoft-owned handset business.

But in some ways this is a negative indicator for both Windows Phone and Microsoft.

It seems like Nokia is saying Windows Phone is not an easy way to make money against the likes of Android and Apple and it would rather get out and do something different.

Or was this the end-game that was being worked towards even when Nokia adopted the Windows Phone platform in 2011?

Nokia had lost the smartphone wagon when the Finnish company sistematically rejected Android as an OS for its devices. Then, Nokia sold the Qt/Symbian bussiness too, inevitably linking its fate to Microsoft's mobile operating systems.

After, building the Surface tablet, this was the logical move for the Redmond guys. Maybe this is a new beginning for Microsoft, but... what shall Intel think about this?
